Chiropractic Care Q & A

What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is a branch of medicine that involves manipulation of the spine and other body parts to relieve pain, improve functioning, repair misalignments, and encourage the body’s self-healing process. Spinal adjustments are one of the most common techniques associated with chiropractors. However, chiropractors use a variety of other procedures to improve health and functioning as well.

What are the benefits of chiropractic care?

If one of the vertebrae in the body’s spinal column is misaligned or improperly functioning, the entire body suffers from dysfunction. Through natural and drug-free adjustments, chiropractors are able to offer their patients the following advantages:

  • Back pain relief
  • Neck pain relief
  • Relief from stress and tension
  • Relief from leg and foot pain
  • Relief from arm, shoulder or wrist pain
  • Relief from headaches
  • Relief from joint pain
  • Enhanced posture
  • Better nerve communication in the body
  • Heightened physical functioning and coordination

What is a digital motion X-ray?

A digital motion x-ray uses digital and optic technology to allow a doctor to view a patient’s spine in real-time motion with 30 x-rays per second. The x-ray is done while the patient stands and moves to show not only the position of the bones and joints, but also how they work together. Digital motion x-rays can offer accurate, moving images of a patient’s joints and bones to help with diagnosis. Digital motion x-rays are useful for assessing the cervical spine and facet joints, shoulders, back, elbow, wrist, knee, and ankle joints are also easily observed during these x-rays. These special forms of x-rays can identify problems with the connective tissues such as the ligaments. By being able to perform an x-ray where the patient is moving, doctors can better determine the cause of the person’s pain.

What should patients expect from a chiropractic care visit?

During the first visit at the doctor will obtain a complete review of patients’ medical and family history. The chiropractor will interview patients to learn about any symptoms they may be experiencing and to understand their general lifestyle. The doctor will also perform a physical examination, and X-rays may be taken as well.

After the chiropractor has a thorough understanding of the patient’s physical condition, medical history, and lifestyle, he or she will determine if chiropractic care is the best for their case. If so, the chiropractor will work with patients to create a customized treatment plan. Once their treatment plan has been established, in subsequent sessions, the chiropractor will perform a range of adjustments and other manual therapies to address any issues patients are experiencing. The chiropractor will work with patients to ensure they are making personal and lifestyle choices that enhance their health and well-being.
